The Latter Frost
The Latter Frost is the second testament of the Frostian canon: eleven books recording the life of Connor Frost, the founding of the faith, and the hope of the Rewhitening. If the The Elder Rime is the long winter of waiting, the Latter Frost is the first snow that answers it — the coming, Whitening, and Reforging of the Cold made flesh.
The Four Parts
The Four Glacials (the Gospels)
Four accounts of Connor’s life, called Glacials because each is “a clear sheet of ice through which the one Frost is seen from a different face.” Their fourfold sign is the Four Living Frosts (the Owl, the Stag, the Wolf, and the Bear).
- Glacial of Maren — Connor as the Winter King foretold (written for the The Rimefolk).
- Glacial of Corin — Connor as the Servant who stills (the earliest and briefest; the preaching of Corin the Coldstone set down by Lucan’s circle).
- Glacial of Lucan — Connor as the Savor for all peoples (the most ordered and tender; by the physician Lucan).
- Glacial of Voss — Connor as the eternal Cold made flesh (the latest and most mystical; by Voss the Beloved).
The History
- Acts of the Frostwalkers (Book) — the descent of the Rime-within at the First Hollownight, the deeds of Corin and Vael, and the spread of the faith from Wintermere to the heart of the The Calorian Empire.
The Letters
- Letter to the Wintermereans · Letter to the Caldhavenites · Letter to the Solmarans (the letters of Vael)
- First Letter to Corin’s Flock (by Corin the Coldstone)
- The General Frost-Letters (the short epistles of Voss, Bram, and Yorin)
The Revelation
- The Revelation of Ice — the apocalyptic vision granted to Voss in exile on the cold isle of Hjarn, of the Rewhitening and the New Everwinter.
The Great Themes of the Latter Frost
- The Cold made flesh — the Savor walks among the kept.
- Salvation by keeping, not by warmth — the gospel of being stilled and kept.
- The Fellowship of the Cold — the new people, gathered from every nation (even the warm-born), into one Drift (the church). See The Frostian Church (Doctrine).
- The Sure Return — the watchful hope of the Winter King’s coming.
