Voss
The Beloved · The Seer of the Revelation · Sign of the Pale Owl
“He leaned upon the Cold and was not afraid; and the Cold loved him.” — Glacial of Voss 13:23
Voss is one of the The Frostborne Twelve, called by tradition the Beloved — the disciple “whom Connor kept closest.” Brother of Sefa, he was a fisherman of the frozen lakes before Connor Frost called the two “sons of frost-thunder” from their nets. Of all the Twelve he alone is said not to have suffered a violent Whitening, dying in great age in exile.
The Beloved Disciple
Voss leaned on Connor at the last Cold Supper, stood with Wenna Frost beneath the The Sunstone at the Melting, and was first (with Corin) to run to the empty Sepulchre and believe the Reforging. To him the dying Connor entrusted his mother: “Behold thy mother; behold thy son.”
The Glacial and the Revelation
His witness is set down in the Glacial of Voss, the most mystical of the four gospel-lives, which begins not with Connor’s birth but with the eternal Cold (“In the beginning was the Stillness”). Late in life, exiled to the isle of Hjarn under the Calorian persecution, he received the visions recorded in The Revelation of Ice, sealing the prophetic canon. His sign among the Four Living Frosts is the Pale Owl — far sight and wisdom.
Veneration
Venerated as the apostle of love and the contemplative life, Voss is patron of mystics, theologians, and the aged. His great feast falls near Aurora Night.
