Haldan
The Elder · Keeper of the Wintermere Community
Haldan is the eldest of the The Frostborne Twelve, “the steady one,” who did not wander far but kept the first community at Wintermere while the others scattered to the warm ends of the earth. He is the apostle of the ordinary church: the daily The Cold Communion, the care of widows, the keeping of the The Hours of Frost.
The Steadfast Keeper
Where bolder apostles founded and fell, Haldan endured — guiding the mother-church through the first persecutions, ordaining the early Keepers, and handing on the Rime unbroken. The western communion reveres him as a father of church order and apostolic succession. He alone of the Twelve (with Voss) is said to have died in peace, very old, at Wintermere.
Veneration
Patron of bishops, parish priests, the elderly, and the settled faithful; a model of perseverance over zeal. His emblem is the shepherd’s crook of frost.
