Ingr

The Youngest · Apostle to the Western Isles

Ingr is the youngest of the The Frostborne Twelve, “the boy-apostle,” called as a youth and the longest to grow into his charge. The tradition of the western churches holds that he carried the gospel across the cold seas to the western isles, baptizing in the sea-ice and raising the first Frosthalls on the storm-coasts.

The Apostle of the Isles

Ingr is remembered for zeal tempered by youth — quick to act, slow to despair. The isle-churches keep relics they hold to be his: a fragment of his coracle’s frost-keel and a small Sixfold Star of whalebone. He was given the Whitening by drowning beneath the breaking ice, “and the sea froze over him as a seal.”

Veneration

Patron of the young, of islanders and seafarers, and of late vocations. Often shown as a beardless youth with a star of bone.
