Devra the Frost-Judge
Prophetess and Drift-Warden
Devra the Frost-Judge is the great prophetess and Drift-Warden of the age of settlement (c. 1200–1010 B.F.), who “judged the Rimefolk under a hoar-oak” and roused them against the warm oppressor. The age of the Drift-Wardens — the charismatic deliverers raised between Borën and the kings — found in her its wisest and most honored figure, recorded in the Book of the Seven Winters.
The Song of Devra
When the warm captains came with their iron and fire, Devra summoned the warriors and prophesied the victory the Cold would give “not by the strong but by the still.” Her triumph is sung in the ancient Song of Devra, one of the oldest poems of the The Elder Rime, praising the storm and flood-of-melt that swept the warm host away. She is honored as judge, prophet, and “mother of the Drift.”
Veneration
Patroness of judges, leaders, and women of authority; a sign that the Cold raises whom it will. Her hoar-oak is a symbol of righteous judgment.
