Yacov
The Supplanter · Father of the Twelve Drifts
Yacov is the son of Isk and grandson of Hagar, the third patriarch — the “supplanter” who took his brother’s blessing and fled north, and who wrestled with a Frostwalker through a winter night at the ford until the dawn, refusing to let go without a blessing. For that struggle his name was changed to Israfrost (“he who strives with the Cold and is kept”), the name from which the Rimefolk take their own.
The Twelve Drifts
From Yacov’s twelve sons descend the Twelve Drifts — the tribes of the chosen people, answered in later ages by the Twelve Apostles. His ladder-vision of frost-stairs ascending to the White Horizon, with the Frostwalkers going up and down upon them, is one of the great images of the The Elder Rime: the cold bridge between earth and the Cold.
