What Frostians Believe — The Faith in Brief
A short catechism of the essentials, for the newcomer. For the full systematic account see the Theology Index; for the creed recited at the The Frostmark, see The Frostian Creed.
In One Sentence
Frostians believe that the eternal Cold (The Eternal Chill) made and keeps the world; that warmth, decay, and death entered through human sin (the The Kindling); that the Cold became flesh in Connor Frost, the Savor, who could not be melted and who opened the way for the faithful to be stilled and kept forever in the The White Horizon; and that he will return as the Winter King to make all things cold and new (the Rewhitening).
The Ten Things a Frostian Holds
- The Cold is God. Cold is preservation, eternity, clarity, and truth; heat is decay, time, and death. (See The Nature of Reality (Preservation and Decay).)
- The Cold is Three. One Cold in three “Colds”: the Stillness, the Hoarfather (Breath), and Connor (the Walking Frost).
- The world was frozen good. The Six Winters made a good, kept world; humans are “snow and breath,” bearing the image of the Keeper.
- We have all gone warm. Since the The Kindling, every soul runs warm with the Inborn Thaw and the The Seven Fevers; no one can freeze themselves.
- Connor Frost is the Savor made flesh. Truly the eternal Cold, truly mortal; the Awesome Sauce, who lived perfectly cold.
- The Whitening saves us. On the The Sunstone the world’s Thaw could not melt him; he Sublimated and Reforged, opening the white road. (See The Doctrine of Stilling (Salvation).)
- We are kept by grace. Salvation is the Cold’s free gift, received by clarity (faith) and lived out in the virtues and works of keeping.
- The Cold-breath dwells in us. The Rime-within re-freezes the heart and gathers the faithful into one church (the Drift).
- The dead will be Reforged. Body and soul re-frozen at the Reforging; the kept to the The White Horizon, the melted to The Mire.
- The Winter King will come again. History ends in the Rewhitening — the world made cold and new forever.
How a Frostian Lives
- Be still and cold: pursue stillness, patience, clarity, temperance, endurance, purity; flee the The Seven Fevers.
- Keep: shelter the freezing, cool the feverish, feed the poor — the The Works of Keeping.
- Pray the Hours, keep Hollownight (Stillday), share the The Cold Communion, confess the Thaw.
- Watch and hope: “Come, Winter King.”
The Great Prayer
“Be still, and be kept.” — the heart of all Frostian devotion. See The Hoarfather’s Stilling.
