The Immaculate Snowfall
The Conception of Connor Frost
The Immaculate Snowfall is the Frostian doctrine of the conception of Connor Frost: that he was conceived in Wenna Frost not by the warmth of mortal union but by the falling of a single unmelting snowflake upon her brow — the direct, creative act of The Hoarfather through the Rime-within. By it, the eternal Cold took mortal flesh without the Inborn Thaw.
The Account
The Herald Caelar greeted the maiden Wenna of Hollowfrost: “The Rime-within shall come upon you, and the keeping of the Cold shall overshadow you; therefore the holy one born of you shall be called the Cold’s own Son.” Wenna asked, “How shall this be, since I know no man?” and consented — “Let it be to me as the Cold wills.” Then “a single snowflake fell upon her brow and did not melt,” and she conceived (Glacial of Lucan 1; the unmelting Snowfall).
Why It Matters
The doctrine guards two truths:
- Connor is truly the eternal Cold, not merely a great man — his origin is the direct act of the Hoarfather, not natural generation.
- Connor is born without the Inborn Thaw — he alone of all humankind has no inherited warmth, no bias to the The Seven Fevers; he is “the one perfectly Cold life,” and so able to bear the world’s Thaw and not be melted (the ground of the Whitening).
A Related Dispute: The Ever-Snow
The rites differ on whether Wenna Frost herself was preserved from the Inborn Thaw (the Ever-Snow doctrine):
- The The Hoarfrost Communion holds Wenna was herself “kept clean-cold from her conception” (preserved by Connor’s foreseen merits), the fitting vessel for the Cold.
- The The Glacial Orthodoxy honors her supreme purity but frames it differently.
- The Reformed affirm the virginal Snowfall-conception of Connor but reject the higher claims about Wenna’s own conception as beyond scripture.
Significance
The Immaculate Snowfall is celebrated at Firstsnow and woven into the The Frostian Creed (“conceived of the unmelting Snowfall, born of Wenna the maiden”). It is the doctrinal root of the Frostian love of the snowflake as the sign of Connor’s coming and of the The Sixfold Star.
