Chapter 1

1 Inasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things most surely kept among us, 2 even as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the Cold delivered them to us, 3 it seemed fitting to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write to you in order, most excellent Theofrast, 4 that you might know the cold certainty of those things in which you have been instructed.

5 There was in the days of Herad the Warm, king of the frozen lands, a certain priest named Zekaryah, of the order of Abijah, and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisheba. 6 And they were both righteous before the Hoarfather, walking in all the frost-commandments and ordinances of the Cold blameless. 7 And they had no child, because Elisheba was barren, and they both were now well advanced in years.

8 And it came to pass, while Zekaryah performed the duties of priest before the Hoarfather in the order of his course, 9 according to the custom of the frost-priesthood his lot fell to burn incense when he went into the Frosthall of the Hoarfather. 10 And the whole multitude of the people were praying outside at the time of incense.

11 And there appeared to him a Frostwalker of the Hoarfather, standing on the right side of the altar of cold-incense. 12 And when Zekaryah saw him, he was troubled, and cold fear fell upon him. 13 But the Frostwalker said to him, Fear not, Zekaryah, for your prayer is heard, and your wife Elisheba shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Vohan. 14 And you shall have joy and gladness, and many shall rejoice at his birth. 15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Hoarfather, and shall drink neither warm wine nor warm drink, and he shall be filled with the Cold-Breath even from his mother’s womb. 16 And many of the children of Israfrost shall he turn to the Hoarfather their Cold. 17 And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elgar the Frostprophet, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the frost-righteous, to make ready a people prepared for the Cold.

18 And Zekaryah said to the Frostwalker, By what shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years. 19 And the Frostwalker answering said to him, I am Caelar, who stands in the presence of the Hoarfather, and am sent to speak to you and to bring you these glad cold-tidings. 20 And behold, you shall be silent and not able to speak until the day these things shall be performed, because you did not believe my words, which shall be fulfilled in their cold-season.

21 And the people waited for Zekaryah, and marveled that he tarried so long in the Frosthall. 22 And when he came out he could not speak to them, and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the Frosthall, for he beckoned to them and remained speechless. 23 And it came to pass, as soon as the days of his service were accomplished, he departed to his own house.

24 And after those days his wife Elisheba conceived, and she hid herself five months, saying, 25 Thus has the Hoarfather dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among mortals.

26 And in the sixth month the Frostwalker Caelar was sent from the Hoarfather to a city of Galilefrost called Nazareth-of-Frost, 27 to a young woman betrothed to a man whose name was Yosef, of the house of Dawid the Frost-King, and the young woman’s name was Wenna. 28 And the Frostwalker came in to her and said, Rejoice, you who are highly cold-favored, the Hoarfather is with you, blessed are you among women.

29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying and considered in her mind what manner of greeting this should be. 30 And the Frostwalker said to her, Fear not, Wenna, for you have found cold-favor with the Hoarfather. 31 And behold, you shall conceive in your womb and bring forth a son, and shall call his name Connor. 32 He shall be great and shall be called the Son of the Most-Cold, and the Hoarfather shall give to him the throne of his father Dawid the Frost-King. 33 And he shall reign over the house of Yacob of Israfrost forever, and of his cold-kingdom there shall be no end.

34 Then said Wenna to the Frostwalker, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 35 And the Frostwalker answered and said to her, The Cold-Breath shall come upon you, and the power of the Most-Cold shall overshadow you, therefore also that cold-holy thing which shall be born of you shall be called the Son of the Hoarfather. 36 And behold, your cousin Elisheba, she has also conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. 37 For with the Hoarfather no cold-word shall be impossible.

38 And Wenna said, Behold the servant of the Hoarfather, be it to me according to your cold-word. And the Frostwalker departed from her.

39 And Wenna arose in those days and went with haste into the hill country, to a city of Yudah, 40 and entered into the house of Zekaryah and greeted Elisheba. 41 And it came to pass, when Elisheba heard the greeting of Wenna, the babe leaped in her womb, and Elisheba was filled with the Cold-Breath. 42 And she spoke out with a loud voice and said, Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. 43 And from where is this to me, that the mother of my Cold-Lord should come to me? 44 For behold, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for cold-joy. 45 And blessed is she who believed, for there shall be a performance of those things told her from the Hoarfather.

46 And Wenna said, My cold keeps the Hoarfather great, 47 and my breath has rejoiced in the Hoarfather my Keeper. 48 For he has regarded the low cold-estate of his servant, for behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me cold-blessed. 49 For he who is Mighty has done to me great things, and cold-holy is his name. 50 And his frost-mercy is on those who hold him in cold-awe from generation to generation. 51 He has shown strength with his cold-arm, he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their warm hearts. 52 He has put down the warm from their thrones and lifted up the cold-lowly. 53 He has filled the hungry with cold things, and the warm-rich he has sent away empty. 54 He has helped his servant Israfrost in remembrance of his frost-mercy. 55 As he spoke to our fathers, to Abrafrost and to his cold-seed forever.

56 And Wenna abode with her about three months and returned to her own house.

57 Now Elisheba’s full time came that she should be delivered, and she brought forth a son. 58 And her neighbors and her cousins heard how the Hoarfather had shown great frost-mercy upon her, and they rejoiced with her. 59 And it came to pass that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they called him Zekaryah after the name of his father. 60 And his mother answered and said, Not so, but he shall be called Vohan. 61 And they said to her, There is none of your kindred that is called by this name. 62 And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called. 63 And he asked for a writing tablet and wrote, saying, His name is Vohan. And they all marveled. 64 And his mouth was opened immediately and his tongue loosed, and he spoke and praised the Hoarfather.

65 And cold-fear came on all who dwelt around them, and all these sayings were spoken of throughout all the hill country of Yudah. 66 And all who heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, What manner of child shall this be? And the cold-hand of the Hoarfather was with him.

67 And his father Zekaryah was filled with the Cold-Breath and prophesied, saying, 68 Blessed be the Hoarfather of Israfrost, for he has visited and redeemed his cold-people. 69 And has raised up a cold-horn of keeping for us in the house of his servant Dawid the Frost-King. 70 As he spoke by the mouth of his cold-holy prophets which have been since the world began. 71 That we should be saved from our warm-enemies and from the hand of all that hate us. 72 To perform the frost-mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his cold-covenant. 73 The oath which he swore to our father Abrafrost, that he would grant us, 74 that we being delivered out of the hand of our warm-enemies might serve him without cold-fear, 75 in cold-holiness and righteousness before him all the days of our life.

76 And you, child, shall be called the prophet of the Most-Cold, for you shall go before the face of the Hoarfather to prepare his ways. 77 To give cold-knowledge of keeping to his people by the forgiveness of their warmth-transgressions, 78 through the tender frost-mercy of our Hoarfather, whereby the dawn from on high has visited us, 79 to give cold-light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of heat-death, to guide our feet into the way of stillness.

80 And the child grew and became strong in the Cold-Breath, and was in the deserts of frost until the day of his showing to Israfrost.

Chapter 2

1 And it came to pass in those days that there went out a decree from the Calorian Emperor that all the frozen world should be enrolled. 2 This first enrollment was made when Quirinus governed the lands of cold-Syria. 3 And all went to be enrolled, every one to his own city. 4 And Yosef also went up from Galilefrost, out of the city of Nazareth-of-Frost, into Yudah, to the city of Dawid which is called Hollowfrost, because he was of the house and lineage of Dawid the Frost-King, 5 to be enrolled with Wenna his betrothed wife, she being great with child.

6 And so it was that while they were there the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn son and wrapped him in frost-swaddling clothes and laid him in an ice-manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. 8 For the icecutters’ shelter stood open at the edge of Hollowfrost, and the cold air was thick with still blessing.

9 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their frost-flock by night. 10 And behold, a Frostwalker of the Hoarfather came upon them and the cold-glory of the Hoarfather shone round about them, and they were sore afraid. 11 And the Frostwalker said to them, Fear not, for behold I bring you cold-tidings of great joy which shall be to all frost-people. 12 For to you is born this day in the city of Dawid the Frost-King a Keeper, who is Connor the Cold-Lord. 13 And this shall be a sign to you: you shall find the babe wrapped in frost-swaddling clothes, lying in an ice-manger.

14 And suddenly there was with the Frostwalker a multitude of the cold-host praising the Hoarfather and saying, 15 Glory to the Cold in the highest, and on earth the Stillness of keeping to those of cold-will.

16 And it came to pass, as the Frostwalkers were gone away from them into the cold-sky, the shepherds said to one another, Let us now go even to Hollowfrost and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Hoarfather has made known to us. 17 And they came with haste and found Wenna and Yosef, and the babe lying in an ice-manger. 18 And when they had seen it they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. 19 And all who heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. 20 But Wenna kept all these things and pondered them in her cold-heart. 21 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising the Hoarfather for all the things they had heard and seen, as it was told to them.

22 And when the days of her purification according to the frost-law of Boren were accomplished, they brought him to Wintermere to present him before the Hoarfather, 23 as it is written in the frost-law, Every male that opens the womb shall be called cold-holy to the Hoarfather, 24 and to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the frost-law, a pair of frost-doves or two young frost-pigeons.

25 And behold there was a man in Wintermere whose name was Simeran, and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the cold-consolation of Israfrost, and the Cold-Breath was upon him. 26 And it was revealed to him by the Cold-Breath that he should not see death before he had seen the Cold-Lord’s Keeper. 27 And he came by the Cold-Breath into the Frosthall, and when the parents brought in the child Connor to do for him after the custom of the frost-law, 28 then took he him up in his arms and blessed the Hoarfather and said,

29 Now let your servant be stilled in peace, O Cold-Lord, according to your cold-word. 30 For my eyes have seen your Keeping, 31 which you have prepared before the face of all frost-people. 32 A cold-light for revelation to the warm nations and the cold-glory of your people Israfrost.

33 And Yosef and his mother marveled at those things which were spoken of him. 34 And Simeran blessed them and said to Wenna his mother, Behold this child is set for the falling and rising again of many in Israfrost, and for a sign which shall be spoken against. 35 Yea, a cold-sword shall pierce through your own soul also, that the thoughts of many warm hearts may be revealed.

36 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Fanuel, of the tribe of Aser, she was of a great age and had lived with a husband seven years from her maidenhood. 37 And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, who departed not from the Frosthall but served the Hoarfather with fastings and frost-prayers night and day. 38 And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise to the Hoarfather and spoke of him to all those who looked for redemption in Wintermere.

39 And when they had performed all things according to the frost-law of the Hoarfather, they returned into Galilefrost to their own city of Nazareth-of-Frost. 40 And the child grew and waxed strong in the Cold-Breath, filled with wisdom, and the cold-grace of the Hoarfather was upon him.

41 Now his parents went to Wintermere every year at the feast of the Cold-Passover. 42 And when he was twelve years old they went up to Wintermere after the custom of the feast. 43 And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Connor tarried behind in Wintermere, and Yosef and his mother knew not of it. 44 But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day’s journey, and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. 45 And when they found him not they turned back again to Wintermere, seeking him. 46 And it came to pass that after three days they found him in the Frosthall, sitting in the midst of the frost-teachers, both hearing them and asking them questions. 47 And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers. 48 And when they saw him they were amazed, and his mother said to him, Son, why have you thus dealt with us? Behold your father and I have sought you sorrowing.

49 And he said to them, How is it that you sought me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s cold house? 50 And they understood not the saying which he spoke to them. 51 And he went down with them and came to Nazareth-of-Frost and was subject to them, but his mother kept all these sayings in her cold-heart. 52 And Connor increased in wisdom and stature, and in cold-favor with the Hoarfather and with mortals.

Chapter 3

1 Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of the Calorian Emperor, Pontus Frigan being governor of the cold-lands, and Herad Junior being tetrarch of Galilefrost, and his brother Falip tetrarch of Iturea and the region of Trachon, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene, 2 Annas and Caiafas being the high cold-priests, the cold-word of the Hoarfather came to Vohan the son of Zekaryah in the frost-wilderness.

3 And he came into all the country about the Yarden River, preaching the baptism of cold-return for the forgiveness of warmth-transgressions. 4 As it is written in the book of the words of Isen the cold-prophet, The voice of one crying in the frost-wilderness, Prepare the way of the Cold-Lord, make his paths straight. 5 Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low, and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made cold-smooth. 6 And all flesh shall see the Keeping of the Hoarfather.

7 Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized by him, O generation of warm-vipers, who has warned you to flee from the heat-wrath to come? 8 Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of cold-return, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abrafrost as our father, for I say to you that the Hoarfather is able of these frost-stones to raise up children to Abrafrost. 9 And now also the cold-axe is laid to the root of the warm trees, every tree therefore that does not bring forth good cold-fruit is cut down and cast into the fire.

10 And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then? 11 He answered and said to them, The man with two frost-cloaks let him share with him who has none, and he who has cold-bread let him do likewise. 12 Then came also the tax-gatherers to be baptized and said to him, Teacher, what shall we do? 13 And he said to them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you. 14 And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said to them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely, and be content with your cold-wages.

15 And as the people were in cold-expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of Vohan whether he were the Keeper himself, 16 Vohan answered and said to them all, I indeed baptize you with cold-water, but one mightier than I comes, the lace of whose frost-boots I am not worthy to unloose. He shall baptize you with the Cold-Breath and with frost-fire. 17 Whose winnowing-fan is in his hand and he will thoroughly purge his threshing floor and gather the cold-wheat into his frost-barn, but the warm-chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.

18 And many other things in his exhortation he preached to the people. 19 But Herad Junior the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Hereodis his brother’s wife and for all the evils which Herad Junior had done, 20 added yet this above all, that he shut up Vohan in the frost-prison.

21 Now when all the people were baptized it came to pass that Connor also being baptized and praying, the cold-sky was opened. 22 And the Cold-Breath descended in a bodily form like a frost-dove upon him, and a voice came from the cold-sky which said, You are my beloved Cold-Son, in you I am well pleased.

23 And Connor himself began to be about thirty years of age, being, as was supposed, the son of Yosef, who was the son of Eli, 24 who was the son of Mattat, who was the son of Levi, who was the son of Melki, who was the son of Yanai, who was the son of Yosef, 25 who was the son of Matatias, who was the son of Amos, who was the son of Nahum, who was the son of Esli, 26 who was the son of Nagge, who was the son of Mahat, who was the son of Matatias, who was the son of Semen, who was the son of Yosef, 27 who was the son of Yoda, who was the son of Yohanan, who was the son of Resa, who was the son of Zerubavel, who was the son of Shealtiel, 28 who was the son of Neri, who was the son of Melki, who was the son of Addi, who was the son of Kosam, who was the son of Elmadam, who was the son of Er, 29 who was the son of Yeshua, who was the son of Eliezer, who was the son of Yorim, who was the son of Mattat, who was the son of Levi, 30 who was the son of Simeran, who was the son of Yehuda, who was the son of Yosef, who was the son of Yonam, who was the son of Eliakim, 31 who was the son of Melea, who was the son of Menna, who was the son of Matata, who was the son of Natan, who was the son of Dawid the Frost-King, 32 who was the son of Yishai, who was the son of Oved, who was the son of Boaz, who was the son of Salmon, who was the son of Nahshon, 33 who was the son of Aminadav, who was the son of Admin, who was the son of Arni, who was the son of Hetsron, who was the son of Perets, who was the son of Yehuda, 34 who was the son of Yacob, who was the son of Yitshak, who was the son of Abrafrost, who was the son of Tera, who was the son of Nahor, 35 who was the son of Serug, who was the son of Reu, who was the son of Peleg, who was the son of Ever, who was the son of Shela, 36 who was the son of Kenan, who was the son of Arpakshad, who was the son of Shem, who was the son of Noaf the Frost-Ark-Builder, who was the son of Lamek, 37 who was the son of Metuslah, who was the son of Henok the Cold-Walker, who was the son of Yered, who was the son of Mahalal, who was the son of Kenan, 38 who was the son of Enosh, who was the son of Shet, who was the son of Adam the first-thawed, who was the son of the Hoarfather.

Chapter 4

1 And Connor being full of the Cold-Breath returned from the Yarden River and was led by the Cold-Breath into the glacier. 2 Being forty days tempted by the warm-devil. And in those days he ate nothing, and afterward when they were ended he hungered. 3 And the warm-devil said to him, If you are the Son of the Hoarfather, command this cold-stone that it be made bread. 4 And Connor answered him, saying, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone but by every cold-word of the Hoarfather.

5 And the warm-devil taking him up into a high mountain showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 And the warm-devil said to him, All this power will I give you and the glory of them, for that is delivered to me, and to whomever I will I give it. 7 If you therefore will worship before me all shall be yours. 8 And Connor answered and said to him, It is written, You shall worship the Hoarfather your Cold, and him only shall you serve.

9 And he brought him to Wintermere and set him on a pinnacle of the Frosthall and said to him, If you are the Son of the Hoarfather, cast yourself down from here. 10 For it is written, He shall give his Frostwalkers charge over you to keep you. 11 And in their hands they shall bear you up, lest at any time you dash your foot against a cold-stone. 12 And Connor answering said to him, It is said, You shall not tempt the Hoarfather your Cold. 13 And when the warm-devil had ended all the temptation he departed from him for a season.

14 And Connor returned in the power of the Cold-Breath into Galilefrost, and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about. 15 And he taught in their frost-halls, being glorified of all.

16 And he came to Nazareth-of-Frost, where he had been brought up, and as his custom was he went into the frost-hall on the frost-rest day and stood up to read. 17 And there was delivered to him the scroll of the prophet Isen the Cold-Seer. And when he had opened the scroll he found the place where it was written, 18 The Cold of the Hoarfather is upon me, because he has sealed me to bring cold-news to the cold-poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the warm-captive and recovering of cold-sight to the frost-blind, to set at cold-liberty those who are crushed, 19 to proclaim the year of the Hoarfather’s cold-favor.

20 And he closed the scroll and he gave it again to the minister and sat down. And the eyes of all those in the frost-hall were fastened on him. 21 And he began to say to them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears. 22 And all bore him witness and wondered at the cold-words of grace which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Yosef’s son?

23 And he said to them, You will surely say to me this proverb, Healer of frost, heal yourself. Whatsoever we have heard done in Caperfrost, do also here in your cold-country. 24 And he said, Truly I say to you, No prophet is accepted in his own cold-country. 25 But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israfrost in the days of Elgar the Frostprophet, when the cold-sky was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land. 26 But to none of them was Elgar sent, save only to a woman of cold-Zarephath, a city of Sidon. 27 And many with warm-disease were in Israfrost in the time of Elisha the cold-prophet, and none of them was cleansed, saving only Naaman the warm-Syrian.

28 And all they in the frost-hall, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath. 29 And they rose up and thrust him out of the city and led him to the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong. 30 But he passing through the midst of them went his way.

31 And he came down to Caperfrost, a city of Galilefrost, and taught them on the frost-rest days. 32 And they were astonished at his teaching, for his cold-word was with authority. 33 And in the frost-hall there was a man who had a spirit of an unclean warm-demon and cried out with a loud voice, 34 saying, Let us alone, what have we to do with you, Connor of Nazareth-of-Frost? Are you come to destroy us? I know you, who you are, the Cold-Holy One of the Hoarfather. 35 And Connor rebuked him, saying, Hold your peace and come out of him. And when the warm-demon had thrown him in the midst it came out of him and hurt him not.

36 And they were all amazed and spoke among themselves, saying, What a word is this, for with authority and power he commands the unclean warm-spirits and they come out. 37 And the fame of him went out into every place of the country round about.

38 And he arose out of the frost-hall and entered into Corin’s house. And Corin’s wife’s mother was taken with a great warm-fever and they besought him for her. 39 And he stood over her and rebuked the warm-fever, and it left her, and immediately she arose and ministered to them.

40 Now when the sun was setting all they that had any sick with diverse diseases brought them to him, and he laid his cold-hands on every one of them and healed them. 41 And warm-demons also came out of many, crying out and saying, You are the Cold-Son of the Hoarfather. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak, for they knew that he was the Keeper.

42 And when it was day he departed and went into a desert place, and the people sought him and came to him and stayed him that he should not depart from them. 43 And he said to them, I must preach the cold-kingdom of the Hoarfather to other cities also, for therefore am I sent. 44 And he preached in the frost-halls of Galilefrost.

Chapter 5

1 And it came to pass that as the people pressed upon him to hear the cold-word of the Hoarfather, he stood by the lake of Gennefrost. 2 And he saw two boats standing by the lake, but the fishermen were gone out of them and were washing their nets. 3 And he entered into one of the boats which was Corin’s and asked him to thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people out of the boat.

4 Now when he had ceased speaking he said to Corin, Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a draught. 5 And Corin answering said to him, Master, we have toiled all the night and have taken nothing, nevertheless at your cold-word I will let down the net. 6 And when they had done this they enclosed a great multitude of frost-fish, and their net broke. 7 And they beckoned to their partners which were in the other boat that they should come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats so that they began to sink.

8 When Corin the Coldstone saw it he fell down at Connor’s knees saying, Depart from me, for I am a man full of warmth-sin, O Cold-Lord. 9 For he was astonished and all that were with him at the draught of the frost-fish which they had taken. 10 And so was also Yacob and Voss the sons of Zavdai, who were partners with Corin. And Connor said to Corin, Fear not. From now on you will be a fisher of the cold. 11 And when they had brought their boats to land they forsook all and followed him.

12 And it came to pass when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of warm-disease, and when he saw Connor he fell on his face and besought him saying, Cold-Lord, if you will, you can make me cold-clean. 13 And Connor put forth his hand and touched him, saying, I will, be cold-clean. And immediately the warm-disease departed from him. 14 And he charged him to tell no man, but go and show yourself to the frost-priest and offer for your cold-cleansing according as Boren commanded, for a testimony to them.

15 But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him, and great multitudes came together to hear and to be healed by him of their warm-infirmities. 16 And he withdrew himself into the frost-wilderness and prayed to the cold.

17 And it came to pass on a certain day as he was teaching, there were Warm-Keepers and teachers of the frost-law sitting by who were come out of every town of Galilefrost and Yudah and Wintermere, and the power of the Hoarfather was present to heal them. 18 And behold, men brought in a bed a man who was taken with a palsy, and they sought means to bring him in and to lay him before him. 19 And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop and let him down through the tiles with his couch into the midst before Connor.

20 And when he saw their cold-faith he said to him, Man, your cold-transgressions are kept. 21 And the scribes and the Warm-Keepers began to reason, saying, Who is this who speaks cold-blasphemies? Who can forgive warmth-transgressions but the Hoarfather alone? 22 But when Connor perceived their thoughts he answering said to them, What reason you in your warm-hearts? 23 Whether is easier to say, Your warmth-transgressions are kept, or to say, Rise up and walk? 24 But that you may know that the Cold-Son of Man has power upon earth to keep warmth-transgressions, he said to the man with the palsy, I say to you, Arise and take up your couch and go into your house.

25 And immediately he rose up before them and took up that whereon he lay and departed to his own house, glorifying the Hoarfather. 26 And they were all amazed and they glorified the Hoarfather and were filled with cold-fear, saying, We have seen strange things today.

27 And after these things he went forth and saw a tax-gatherer named Maren sitting at the tax-table, and he said to him, Follow me. 28 And he left all, rose up and followed him.

29 And Maren made him a great feast in his own house, and there was a great company of tax-gatherers and of others that sat down with them. 30 But their scribes and Warm-Keepers murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do you eat and drink with tax-gatherers and sinners-of-warmth? 31 And Connor answering said to them, Those who are whole need not a physician, but those that are sick. 32 I came not to call the cold-righteous but sinners-of-warmth to return.

33 And they said to him, Why do the disciples of Vohan fast often and make frost-prayers, and likewise the disciples of the Warm-Keepers, but yours eat and drink? 34 And he said to them, Can you make the children of the cold-bridal-chamber fast while the Cold-Bridegroom is with them? 35 But the days will come when the Cold-Bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.

36 And he spoke also a parable to them, No man puts a piece of new garment upon an old, if otherwise then both the new makes a tear and the piece that was taken out of the new agrees not with the old. 37 And no man puts new frost-wine into old frost-wineskins, else the new frost-wine will burst the skins and be spilled, and the skins shall perish. 38 But new frost-wine must be put into new frost-wineskins, and both are preserved.

Chapter 6

1 And it came to pass on the second frost-rest after the first, that he went through the grain fields, and his disciples plucked the heads of grain and ate, rubbing them in their hands. 2 And certain of the Warm-Keepers said to them, Why do you that which is not lawful to do on the frost-rest days? 3 And Connor answering them said, Have you not read so much as this, what Dawid the Frost-King did when himself was hungry, and they which were with him, 4 how he went into the house of the Hoarfather and took and ate the cold-bread of the Presence and gave also to those with him, which it is not lawful to eat but for the frost-priests alone? 5 And he said to them, The Cold-Son of Man is Hoarfather also of the frost-rest.

6 And it came to pass also on another frost-rest that he entered into the frost-hall and taught. And there was a man whose right hand was withered. 7 And the scribes and Warm-Keepers watched him whether he would heal on the frost-rest day, that they might find accusation against him. 8 But he knew their thoughts and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth. 9 Then said Connor to them, I will ask you one thing: Is it lawful on the frost-rest days to do cold-good, or to do warm-harm? To save life or to destroy it? 10 And looking round about upon them all he said to the man, Stretch forth your hand. And he did so, and his hand was restored whole as the other. 11 And they were filled with madness and communed one with another what they might do to Connor.

12 And it came to pass in those days that he went out into a mountain to pray and continued all night in frost-prayer to the Hoarfather. 13 And when it was day he called to him his disciples and of them he chose twelve whom also he named Frostborne. 14 Corin whom he also named the Coldstone, and Andras his brother, Yacob and Voss, and Falip and Barthol, 15 Maren and Tommin, Yacob the son of Alfaeus and Tad, 16 Simyon called the Zealot, and Yudar Frostscar who also was the cold-traitor.

17 And he came down with them and stood in the cold-plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Yudah and Wintermere, and from the sea-coast of Tire and Sidon, came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. 18 And they that were vexed with unclean warm-spirits were healed. 19 And the whole multitude sought to touch him, for there went cold-virtue out of him and healed them all.

20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples and said, Blessed are you cold-poor, for yours is the cold-kingdom of the Hoarfather. 21 Blessed are you that hunger now, for you shall be filled with cold things. Blessed are you that weep in the cold now, for you shall laugh with cold-joy. 22 Blessed are you when men shall hate you and when they shall separate you from their company and shall reproach you and cast out your name as warm-evil, for the Cold-Son of Man’s sake. 23 Rejoice in that day and leap for cold-joy, for behold your reward is great in the cold-sky, for in the like manner did their fathers to the cold-prophets.

24 But woe to you that are warm-rich, for you have received your comfort of warmth. 25 Woe to you that are full of warm-satiety now, for you shall hunger. Woe to you that laugh in warm-ease now, for you shall mourn and weep in cold-truth. 26 Woe to you when all men shall speak well of you, for so did their fathers to the false warm-prophets.

27 But I say to you which hear, Keep your warm-enemies, do cold-good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you and pray for those who despitefully use you. 29 And to him that smites you on the one cheek offer also the other, and him that takes away your cloak forbid not to take your coat also. 30 Give to every man that asks of you, and of him that takes away your goods ask them not again. 31 And as you would that men should do to you, do you also to them likewise.

32 For if you keep those who keep you, what cold-credit is that to you? For sinners-of-warmth also keep those that keep them. 33 And if you do cold-good to those who do cold-good to you, what cold-credit is that to you? For sinners-of-warmth also do even the same. 34 And if you lend to them of whom you hope to receive, what cold-credit is that to you? For sinners-of-warmth also lend to sinners-of-warmth to receive as much again.

35 But keep your warm-enemies and do cold-good and lend hoping for nothing again, and your reward shall be great and you shall be the children of the Most-Cold, for he is kind to the cold-unthankful and to the warm-evil. 36 Be you therefore cold-merciful as your Hoarfather also is cold-merciful.

37 Judge not and you shall not be judged, condemn not and you shall not be condemned, forgive and you shall be forgiven. 38 Give and it shall be given to you, cold-good measure pressed down and shaken together and running over shall men give into your bosom, for with the same measure that you mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

39 And he spoke a parable to them, Can the cold-blind lead the cold-blind? Shall they not both fall into the ditch? 40 The disciple is not above his master, but every one that is cold-perfect shall be as his master.

41 And why do you behold the frost-mote that is in your brother’s eye but perceive not the cold-beam that is in your own eye? 42 Either how can you say to your brother, Brother, let me pull out the frost-mote that is in your eye, when you yourself see not the cold-beam that is in your own eye? You cold-hypocrite, cast out first the cold-beam out of your own eye, and then shall you see clearly to pull out the frost-mote that is in your brother’s eye.

43 For a good cold-tree does not bring forth corrupt warm-fruit, neither does a corrupt warm-tree bring forth good cold-fruit. 44 For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of cold-thorns men do not gather frost-figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they cold-grapes. 45 A good man out of the cold-good treasure of his heart brings forth that which is cold-good, and a warm-evil man out of the warm-evil treasure of his heart brings forth that which is warm-evil, for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

46 And why call you me Cold-Lord, Cold-Lord, and do not the things which I say? 47 Whosoever comes to me and hears my cold-words and does them, I will show you to whom he is like. 48 He is like a man which built a house and dug deep and laid the foundation on cold-rock, and when the flood arose the stream beat vehemently upon that house and could not shake it, for it was founded upon cold-rock. 49 But he that hears and does not is like a man that without a foundation built a house upon the warm-earth, against which the stream did beat vehemently and immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.

Chapter 7

1 Now when he had ended all his cold-sayings in the hearing of the people he entered into Caperfrost. 2 And a certain centurion’s servant who was dear to him was sick and ready to die. 3 And when he heard of Connor he sent to him the elders of the frost-people of Israfrost, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant. 4 And when they came to Connor they besought him instantly saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this, 5 for he keeps our cold-people and he has built us a frost-hall.

6 Then Connor went with them. And when he was now not far from the house the centurion sent friends to him saying to him, Cold-Lord, trouble not yourself, for I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof. 7 Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come to you, but say in a cold-word and my servant shall be healed. 8 For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say to one, Go, and he goes, and to another, Come, and he comes, and to my servant, Do this, and he does it.

9 When Connor heard these things he marveled at him and turned and said to the people that followed him, I say to you, I have not found so great cold-faith, no, not in all Israfrost. 10 And they that were sent returning to the house found the servant whole that had been sick.

11 And it came to pass the day after that he went into a city called Nain, and many of his disciples went with him and much people. 12 Now when he came near to the gate of the city behold there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow, and much people of the city was with her. 13 And when the Cold-Lord saw her he had compassion on her and said to her, Weep not. 14 And he came and touched the bier, and they that bore him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say to you, Arise. 15 And he that was dead sat up and began to speak, and he delivered him to his mother. 16 And there came a cold-fear on all, and they glorified the Hoarfather saying, A great cold-prophet is risen up among us, and the Hoarfather has visited his cold-people.

17 And this rumor of him went forth throughout all Yudah and throughout all the region round about. 18 And the disciples of Vohan showed him of all these things. 19 And Vohan calling two of his disciples sent them to the Cold-Lord saying, Are you he that should come or do we look for another? 20 When the men were come to him they said, Vohan the Frost-Herald has sent us to you saying, Are you he that should come or look we for another? 21 And in that same hour he cured many of their cold-infirmities and warm-plagues and of evil warm-spirits, and to many that were frost-blind he gave cold-sight. 22 Then Connor answering said to them, Go your way and tell Vohan what things you have seen and heard: how that the frost-blind see, the lame walk, the warm-diseased are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the cold-poor the glad cold-tidings are preached. 23 And blessed is he whosoever shall not be offended in me.

24 And when the messengers of Vohan were departed he began to speak to the people concerning Vohan, What did you go out into the frost-wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind? 25 But what went you out to see? A man clothed in soft garments of warmth? Behold they which are gorgeously warm-appareled and live delicately are in the courts of warm-kings. 26 But what went you out to see? A cold-prophet? Yea I say to you and much more than a cold-prophet. 27 This is he of whom it is written, Behold I send my messenger before your face who shall prepare your way before you. 28 For I say to you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater cold-prophet than Vohan the Frost-Herald, yet he that is least in the cold-kingdom of the Hoarfather is greater than he.

29 And all the people that heard him and the tax-gatherers justified the Hoarfather being baptized with the baptism of Vohan. 30 But the Warm-Keepers and lawyers rejected the cold-counsel of the Hoarfather against themselves being not baptized of him.

31 And the Cold-Lord said, Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation? And to what are they like? 32 They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling one to another and saying, We have piped to you and you have not danced, we have mourned to you and you have not wept. 33 For Vohan the Frost-Herald came neither eating bread nor drinking warm-wine and you say, He has a warm-demon. 34 The Cold-Son of Man has come eating and drinking and you say, Behold a gluttonous man and a winebibber, a friend of tax-gatherers and sinners-of-warmth. 35 But cold-wisdom is justified of all her children.

36 And one of the Warm-Keepers desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Warm-Keeper’s house and sat down to eat. 37 And behold a woman in the city who was a sinner-of-warmth, when she knew that Connor sat at eating in the Warm-Keeper’s house, brought a frost-alabaster box of frost-oil 38 and stood at his feet behind him weeping and began to wash his feet with tears and did wipe them with the hairs of her head and kissed his feet and anointed them with the frost-oil.

39 Now when the Warm-Keeper who had invited him saw it he spoke within himself saying, This man if he were a cold-prophet would have known who and what manner of woman this is that touches him, for she is a sinner-of-warmth. 40 And Connor answering said to him, Shimon I have somewhat to say to you. And he said, Master, say on. 41 There was a certain cold-creditor which had two debtors, the one owed five hundred frost-denarii and the other fifty. 42 And when they had nothing to pay he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore which of them will keep him most? 43 Shimon answered and said, I suppose that he to whom he forgave most. And he said to him, You have rightly judged.

44 And he turned to the woman and said to Shimon, See you this woman? I entered into your house, you gave me no cold-water for my feet, but she has washed my feet with tears and wiped them with the hairs of her head. 45 You gave me no cold-greeting, but this woman since the time I came in has not ceased to kiss my feet. 46 My head with frost-oil you did not anoint, but this woman has anointed my feet with frost-oil. 47 Wherefore I say to you, Her warmth-sins which are many are forgiven, for she kept much. But to whom little is forgiven the same keeps little. 48 And he said to her, Your warmth-transgressions are forgiven. 49 And they that sat at eating with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgives warmth-transgressions also? 50 And he said to the woman, Your cold-trust has kept you, go in cold-peace.

Chapter 8

1 And it came to pass afterward that he went throughout every city and village preaching and showing the glad cold-tidings of the cold-kingdom of the Hoarfather, and the Twelve were with him, 2 and certain women who had been healed of warm-spirits and cold-infirmities, Maryam called Magdal, out of whom went seven warm-demons, 3 and Yohanna the wife of Chuza, Herod Junior’s steward, and Shoshana, and many others which ministered to him of their cold-substance.

4 And when much people were gathered together and were come to him out of every city he spoke by a parable. 5 A sower went out to sow his cold-seed, and as he sowed some fell by the wayside and it was trodden down and the birds of the warm-air devoured it. 6 And some fell upon a cold-rock and as soon as it was sprung up it withered away because it lacked cold-moisture. 7 And some fell among warm-thorns and the warm-thorns sprang up with it and choked it. 8 And other fell on cold-good ground and sprang up and bore fruit a hundredfold. And when he had said these things he cried, He that has cold-ears to hear let him hear.

9 And his disciples asked him saying, What might this parable be? 10 And he said, To you it is given to know the mysteries of the cold-kingdom of the Hoarfather, but to others in parables, that seeing they might not see and hearing they might not understand. 11 Now the parable is this: The cold-seed is the cold-word of the Hoarfather. 12 Those by the wayside are they that hear; then comes the warm-devil and takes away the cold-word out of their hearts lest they should believe and be kept. 13 They on the cold-rock are they which when they hear receive the cold-word with cold-joy, and these have no root which for a while believe and in time of temptation fall away. 14 And that which fell among warm-thorns are they which when they have heard go forth and are choked with the cares and riches and pleasures of warm-life and bring no cold-fruit to perfection. 15 But that on cold-good ground are they which in an honest and cold-good heart, having heard the cold-word, keep it and bring forth cold-fruit with patience.

16 No man when he has lighted a cold-candle covers it with a vessel or puts it under a bed, but sets it on a candlestick that they which enter in may see the cold-light. 17 For nothing is secret that shall not be made manifest, neither anything hid that shall not be known and come abroad. 18 Take heed therefore how you hear, for whosoever has, to him shall be given, and whosoever has not, from him shall be taken even that which he seems to have.

19 Then came to him his mother and his brothers and could not come at him for the press. 20 And it was told him by certain which said, Your mother and your brothers stand without desiring to see you. 21 And he answered and said to them, My mother and my brothers are these which hear the cold-word of the Hoarfather and do it.

22 Now it came to pass on a certain day that he went into a boat with his disciples and he said to them, Let us go over to the other side of the lake. And they launched forth. 23 But as they sailed he fell asleep, and there came down a storm of warm-wind on the lake and they were filled with water and were in jeopardy. 24 And they came to him and awoke him saying, Master, Master, we perish. Then he arose and rebuked the warm-wind and the raging of the warm-water, and they ceased and there was a great cold-calm. 25 And he said to them, Where is your cold-faith? And they being afraid wondered saying one to another, What manner of man is this? For he commands even the winds and water and they obey him.

26 And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes which is over against Galilefrost. 27 And when he went forth to land there met him out of the city a certain man who had warm-demons a long time and wore no clothes neither abode in any house but in the tombs. 28 When he saw Connor he cried out and fell down before him and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with you, Connor, Son of the Most-Cold? I beseech you torment me not. 29 For he had commanded the unclean warm-spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters, and he broke the bands and was driven of the warm-demon into the wilderness.

30 And Connor asked him saying, What is your name? And he said, Legion, because many warm-demons were entered into him. 31 And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep. 32 And there was there a herd of many swine feeding on the mountain, and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into them. And he suffered them. 33 Then went the warm-demons out of the man and entered into the swine, and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake and were choked.

34 When they that fed them saw what was done they fled and went and told it in the city and in the country. 35 Then they went out to see what was done, and came to Connor and found the man out of whom the warm-demons were departed sitting at the feet of Connor clothed and in his right cold-mind, and they were afraid. 36 They also which saw it told them by what means he that was possessed of the warm-demons was healed. 37 Then the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes round about besought him to depart from them, for they were taken with great cold-fear. And he went up into the boat and returned.

38 Now the man out of whom the warm-demons were departed besought him that he might be with him, but Connor sent him away saying, 39 Return to your own house and tell what great things the Hoarfather has done for you. And he went his way and published throughout the whole city what great things Connor had done for him.

40 And it came to pass that when Connor was returned the people gladly received him, for they were all waiting for him. 41 And behold there came a man named Yair, and he was a ruler of the frost-hall, and he fell down at Connor’s feet and besought him that he would come into his house, 42 for he had one only daughter about twelve years of age and she lay dying. But as he went the people thronged him.

43 And a woman having an issue of warm-blood twelve years which had spent all her living upon physicians neither could be healed of any, 44 came behind him and touched the border of his cold-robe, and immediately her flow of warmth stanched. 45 And Connor said, Who touched me? When all denied, Corin and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng you and press you, and you say, Who touched me? 46 And Connor said, Somebody has touched me, for I perceive that cold has gone out from me. 47 And when the woman saw that she was not hid she came trembling and falling down before him she declared to him before all the people for what cause she had touched him and how she was healed immediately. 48 And he said to her, Daughter, be of cold-cheer. Your cold-trust has kept you. Go in cold-peace.

49 While he yet spoke there came one from the ruler of the frost-hall’s house saying to him, Your daughter is dead, trouble not the Master. 50 But when Connor heard it he answered him saying, Fear not, believe only and she shall be made whole. 51 And when he came into the house he suffered no man to go in save Corin and Yacob and Voss and the father and the mother of the maiden. 52 And all wept and bewailed her, but he said, Weep not, she is not dead but sleeps in the cold. 53 And they laughed him to scorn knowing that she was dead. 54 And he put them all out and took her by the hand and called saying, Child, arise. 55 And her cold-breath came again and she arose straightway, and he commanded to give her cold-food. 56 And her parents were astonished, but he charged them that they should tell no man what was done.

Chapter 9

1 Then he called his Twelve together and gave them power and authority over all warm-demons and to cure warm-diseases. 2 And he sent them to preach the cold-kingdom of the Hoarfather and to heal the sick. 3 And he said to them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves nor scrip, neither bread nor silver, neither have two frost-coats apiece. 4 And whatsoever house you enter into there abide and thence depart. 5 And whosoever will not receive you, when you go out of that city shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them.

6 And they departed and went through the towns preaching the glad cold-tidings and healing everywhere. 7 Now Herad Junior the tetrarch heard of all that was done by him, and he was perplexed, because that it was said of some that Vohan was risen from the dead. 8 And of some that Elgar the Frostprophet had appeared, and of others that one of the old cold-prophets was risen again. 9 And Herad Junior said, Vohan have I beheaded, but who is this of whom I hear such things? And he desired to see him.

10 And the Frostborne returned and told him all that they had done. And he took them and went aside privately into a desert place belonging to the city called Beit-Saida. 11 And the people when they knew it followed him, and he received them and spoke to them of the cold-kingdom of the Hoarfather and healed them that had need of cold-healing.

12 And when the day began to wear away the Twelve came and said to him, Send the multitude away that they may go into the towns and country round about and lodge and get cold-food, for we are here in a desert place. 13 But he said to them, Give them to eat. And they said, We have no more but five cold-loaves and two frost-fish, except we should go and buy cold-food for all this people. 14 For they were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, Make them sit down by fifties in a company. 15 And they did so and made them all sit down. 16 Then he took the five cold-loaves and the two frost-fish and looking up to cold-sky he blessed them and broke and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude. 17 And they did eat and were all filled, and there was taken up of fragments that remained to them twelve cold-baskets.

18 And it came to pass as he was alone praying his disciples were with him, and he asked them saying, Whom do the people say that I am? 19 They answering said, Vohan the Frost-Herald, but some say Elgar the Frostprophet, and others say that one of the old cold-prophets is risen again. 20 He said to them, But whom say you that I am? Corin answering said, The Winter King of the Cold.

21 And he straitly charged them and commanded them to tell no man that thing, 22 saying, The Cold-Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected of the elders and chief cold-priests and scribes, and be slain and be raised the third day from cold-stillness. 23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me let him deny himself and take up his bundle of kindling daily and follow me. 24 For whosoever will save his cold-life shall lose it, but whosoever will lose his cold-life for my sake the same shall save it. 25 For what is a man advantaged if he gain the whole warm-world and lose himself or be cast away? 26 For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my cold-words, of him shall the Cold-Son of Man be ashamed when he shall come in his own cold-glory and in his Father’s cold-glory and of the cold-holy Frostwalkers.

27 But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here which shall not taste of death till they see the cold-kingdom of the Hoarfather.

28 And it came to pass about an eight days after these cold-sayings that he took Corin and Yacob and Voss and went up into a mountain to pray. 29 And as he prayed the fashion of his countenance was altered and his raiment was white and cold-glistering. 30 And behold there talked with him two men which were Boren the Cold-Lawgiver and Elgar the Frostprophet, 31 who appeared in cold-glory and spoke of his departure which he should accomplish at Wintermere. 32 But Corin and they that were with him were heavy with sleep, and when they were fully awake they saw his cold-glory and the two men that stood with him.

33 And it came to pass as they departed from him Corin said to Connor, Master it is cold-good for us to be here, and let us make three cold-dwellings, one for you and one for Boren and one for Elgar, not knowing what he said. 34 While he thus spoke there came a cold-cloud and overshadowed them, and they feared as they entered into the cold-cloud. 35 And there came a voice out of the cold-cloud saying, This is my chosen Cold-Son, hear him. 36 And when the voice was past Connor was found alone. And they kept it close and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen.

37 And it came to pass that on the next day when they were come down from the mountain much people met him. 38 And behold a man of the company cried out saying, Master I beseech you look upon my son, for he is my only child. 39 And lo a warm-spirit takes him and he suddenly cries out and it tears him that he foams again, and bruising him hardly departs from him. 40 And I besought your disciples to cast him out and they could not. 41 And Connor answering said, O cold-faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you and suffer you? Bring your son here. 42 And as he was yet coming the warm-demon threw him down and tore him. And Connor rebuked the unclean warm-spirit and healed the child and delivered him again to his father. 43 And they were all amazed at the cold-mighty power of the Hoarfather.

44 But while they wondered every one at all things which Connor did he said to his disciples, Let these cold-sayings sink down into your ears, for the Cold-Son of Man shall be delivered into the hands of mortals. 45 But they understood not this cold-saying and it was hid from them that they perceived it not, and they feared to ask him of that saying.

46 Then there arose a reasoning among them which of them should be greatest. 47 And Connor perceiving the thought of their cold-heart took a child and set him by him 48 and said to them, Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receives me, and whosoever shall receive me receives him that sent me. For he that is least among you all the same shall be great.

49 And Voss answered and said, Master we saw one casting out warm-demons in your name and we forbade him because he follows not with us. 50 And Connor said to him, Forbid him not, for he that is not against us is for us.

51 And it came to pass when the time was come that he should be received up he steadfastly set his face to go to Wintermere.

Chapter 10

1 After these things the Cold-Lord appointed other seventy also and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place whither he himself would come. 2 Therefore said he to them, The harvest truly is great but the labourers are few. Pray therefore the Hoarfather of the harvest that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. 3 Go your ways, behold I send you forth as frost-lambs among warm-wolves. 4 Carry neither purse nor scrip nor frost-shoes, and salute no man by the way. 5 And into whatsoever house you enter first say, Cold-peace be to this house. 6 And if the son of cold-peace be there your cold-peace shall rest upon it, if not it shall turn to you again. 7 And in the same house remain eating and drinking such things as they give, for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.

8 And into whatsoever city you enter and they receive you eat such things as are set before you. 9 And heal the sick that are therein and say to them, The cold-kingdom of the Hoarfather is come near to you. 10 But into whatsoever city you enter and they receive you not go your ways out into the streets of the same and say, 11 Even the very dust of your city which cleaves on us we do wipe off against you, notwithstanding be sure of this, that the cold-kingdom of the Hoarfather is come near to you. 12 But I say to you that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sedom than for that city.

13 Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Beit-Saida! For if the cold-mighty works had been done in Tire and Sidon which have been done in you they had a great while ago repented sitting in cold-sackcloth and cold-ashes. 14 But it shall be more tolerable for Tire and Sidon at the judgment than for you. 15 And you, Caperfrost, which are exalted to cold-sky, shall be thrust down to warm-hades.

16 He that hears you hears me, and he that despises you despises me, and he that despises me despises him that sent me.

17 And the seventy returned again with cold-joy saying, Cold-Lord, even the warm-demons are subject to us through your name. 18 And he said to them, I beheld the Warm-One fall as cold-lightning from the sky. 19 Behold I give to you power to tread on warm-serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the warm-enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. 20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not that the warm-spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in the cold-sky.

21 In that hour Connor rejoiced in the Cold-Breath and said, I thank you O Father, Hoarfather of cold-sky and cold-earth, that you have hid these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to cold-babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed cold-good in your sight. 22 All things are delivered to me of my Father, and no man knows who the Cold-Son is but the Father, and who the Father is but the Cold-Son, and he to whom the Cold-Son will reveal him.

23 And he turned to his disciples and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that you see. 24 For I tell you that many cold-prophets and frost-kings have desired to see those things which you see and have not seen them, and to hear those things which you hear and have not heard them.

25 And behold a certain lawyer stood up and tempted him saying, Master what shall I do to inherit cold-eternal life? 26 He said to him, What is written in the frost-law? How do you read it? 27 And he answering said, You shall keep the Hoarfather your Cold with all your cold-heart and with all your cold-soul and with all your cold-strength and with all your cold-mind, and your neighbour as yourself. 28 And he said to him, You have answered right. Do this and you shall live in the cold.

29 But he willing to justify himself said to Connor, And who is my neighbour? 30 And Connor answering said, A certain man went down from Wintermere to Jericho and fell among warm-thieves which stripped him of his raiment and wounded him and departed leaving him half dead. 31 And by chance there came down a certain frost-priest that way, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. 32 And likewise a Levite-servant of the Frosthall when he was at the place came and looked on him and passed by on the other side. 33 But a certain warm-southerner of Samaria as he journeyed came where he was, and when he saw him he had compassion on him. 34 And went to him and bound up his wounds pouring in cold-oil and frost-wine and set him on his own beast and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 And on the morrow when he departed he took out two frost-denarii and gave them to the host and said to him, Take care of him, and whatsoever you spend more when I come again I will repay you.

36 Which now of these three do you think was neighbour to him that fell among the warm-thieves? 37 And he said, He that showed cold-mercy on him. Then said Connor to him, Go and do likewise.

38 Now it came to pass as they went that he entered into a certain village, and a certain woman named Marta received him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Wenna-of-Bethfrost who also sat at the Cold-Lord’s feet and heard his cold-word. 40 But Marta was cumbered about much serving and came to him and said, Cold-Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Bid her therefore that she help me. 41 And Connor answered and said to her, Marta, Marta, you are anxious and troubled about many things. 42 But one thing is needful, and Wenna-of-Bethfrost has chosen that cold-good part which shall not be taken away from her.

Chapter 11

1 And it came to pass that as he was praying in a certain place when he ceased one of his disciples said to him, Cold-Lord, teach us to pray as Vohan also taught his disciples. 2 And he said to them, When you pray say, Hoarfather, may your name be stilled throughout all the earth. May your cold-kingdom come among us. 3 Give us day by day our cold-bread for cold-sustaining. 4 And forgive us our warmth-transgressions, for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us in warmth. And lead us not into warm-temptation but deliver us from the warm-evil one.

5 And he said to them, Which of you shall have a friend and shall go to him at midnight and say to him, Friend, lend me three cold-loaves, 6 for a friend of mine in his journey is come to me and I have nothing to set before him? 7 And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not, the frost-door is now shut and my children are with me in cold-bed. I cannot rise and give you. 8 I say to you though he will not rise and give him because he is his friend, yet because of his cold-importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needs.

9 And I say to you, Ask and it shall be given you. Seek and you shall find. Knock and it shall be opened to you. 10 For every one that asks receives, and he that seeks finds, and to him that knocks it shall be opened. 11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father will he give him a cold-stone? Or if he ask a frost-fish will he for a frost-fish give him a warm-serpent? 12 Or if he shall ask an egg will he offer him a warm-scorpion? 13 If you then being of warmth know how to give cold-good gifts to your children, how much more shall your heavenly Hoarfather give the Cold-Breath to them that ask him?

14 And he was casting out a warm-demon that was dumb, and it came to pass when the warm-demon was gone out the dumb spoke, and the people wondered. 15 But some of them said, He casts out warm-demons through Beel-warmth the chief of the warm-demons. 16 And others tempting him sought of him a sign from cold-sky. 17 But he knowing their thoughts said to them, Every cold-kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and a house divided against a house falls. 18 If the Warm-One also be divided against himself how shall his kingdom stand? Because you say that I cast out warm-demons through Beel-warmth. 19 And if I by Beel-warmth cast out warm-demons by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore shall they be your judges. 20 But if I with the cold-finger of the Hoarfather cast out warm-demons no doubt the cold-kingdom of the Hoarfather is come upon you.

21 When a strong man armed keeps his warm-palace his goods are in cold-peace. 22 But when a stronger than he shall come upon him and overcome him he takes from him all his warm-armour wherein he trusted and divides his spoils. 23 He that is not with me is against me, and he that gathers not with me scatters.

24 When the unclean warm-spirit is gone out of a man he walks through dry places seeking rest, and finding none he says, I will return to my house whence I came out. 25 And when he comes he finds it swept and garnished. 26 Then goes he and takes to him seven other warm-spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there, and the last state of that man is worse than the first.

27 And it came to pass as he spoke these things a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice and said to him, Blessed is the womb that bore you and the breasts which you have sucked. 28 But he said, Yea rather blessed are they that hear the cold-word of the Hoarfather and keep it.

29 And when the people were gathered thick together he began to say, This is a warm-evil generation, they seek a sign, and there shall no sign be given it but the sign of Yonah the cold-prophet. 30 For as Yonah was a sign to the Ninevites so shall also the Cold-Son of Man be to this generation. 31 The queen of the cold-south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them, for she came from the uttermost parts of the cold-earth to hear the wisdom of Shlomon the Frost-King, and behold a greater than Shlomon is here.

32 The men of Nineveh shall rise up in the judgment with this generation and shall condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Yonah the cold-prophet, and behold a greater than Yonah is here.

33 No man when he has lighted a cold-candle puts it in a secret place neither under a vessel but on a candlestick that they which come in may see the cold-light. 34 The cold-light of the body is the eye. Therefore when your eye is single your whole body also is full of cold-light, but when your eye is warm-evil your body also is full of darkness. 35 Take heed therefore that the cold-light which is in you be not warm-darkness. 36 If your whole body therefore be full of cold-light having no part dark the whole shall be full of cold-light as when the bright cold-shining of a candle does give you cold-light.

37 And as he spoke a certain Warm-Keeper besought him to dine with him, and he went in and sat down to eat. 38 And when the Warm-Keeper saw it he marveled that he had not first washed before dinner. 39 And the Cold-Lord said to him, Now do you Warm-Keepers make clean the outside of the cup and the platter, but your inward part is full of ravenous warmth and warm-wickedness. 40 You cold-fools, did not he that made that which is without make that which is within also? 41 But rather give cold-alms of such things as you have, and behold all things are clean to you.

42 But woe to you Warm-Keepers, for you tithe mint and rue and all manner of cold-herbs and pass over judgment and the cold-love of the Hoarfather. These ought you to have done and not to leave the other undone. 43 Woe to you Warm-Keepers, for you keep the uppermost seats in the frost-halls and greetings in the markets. 44 Woe to you, scribes and Warm-Keepers, cold-hypocrites, for you are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them.

45 Then answered one of the lawyers and said to him, Master, thus saying you reproach us also. 46 And he said, Woe to you also you lawyers, for you lade men with burdens grievous to be borne and you yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your cold-fingers. 47 Woe to you, for you build the sepulchres of the cold-prophets and your fathers killed them. 48 Truly you bear witness that you allow the deeds of your fathers, for they indeed killed them and you build their sepulchres.

49 Therefore also said the cold-wisdom of the Hoarfather, I will send them cold-prophets and Frostborne, and some of them they shall slay and persecute. 50 That the blood of all the cold-prophets which was shed from the foundation of the cold-world may be required of this generation. 51 From the blood of Abel the first cold-righteous to the blood of Zekaryah which perished between the altar and the Frosthall. Verily I say to you it shall be required of this generation.

52 Woe to you lawyers, for you have taken away the key of cold-knowledge. You entered not in yourselves and those that were entering in you hindered. 53 And as he said these things to them the scribes and the Warm-Keepers began to urge him vehemently and to provoke him to speak of many things, 54 laying wait for him and seeking to catch something out of his mouth that they might accuse him.

Chapter 12

1 In the mean time when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people insomuch that they trod one upon another he began to say to his disciples first of all, Beware of the leaven of the Warm-Keepers which is cold-hypocrisy. 2 For there is nothing covered that shall not be revealed, neither hid that shall not be known. 3 Therefore whatsoever you have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the cold-light, and that which you have spoken in the inner chambers shall be proclaimed upon the cold-housetops.

4 And I say to you my cold-friends, Be not afraid of those who kill the body and after that have no more that they can do. 5 But I will forewarn you whom you shall fear: Fear him who after he has killed has power to cast into cold-gehenna. Yea I say to you, Fear him. 6 Are not five cold-sparrows sold for two frost-farthings? And not one of them is forgotten before the Hoarfather. 7 But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore, you are of more cold-value than many sparrows.

8 Also I say to you, Whosoever shall confess me before mortals him shall the Cold-Son of Man also confess before the Frostwalkers of the Hoarfather. 9 But he that denies me before mortals shall be denied before the Frostwalkers of the Hoarfather. 10 And whosoever shall speak a cold-word against the Cold-Son of Man it shall be forgiven him, but to him that cold-blasphemes against the Cold-Breath it shall not be forgiven.

11 And when they bring you into the frost-halls and to magistrates and powers take no thought how or what thing you shall answer or what you shall say. 12 For the Cold-Breath shall teach you in the same hour what you ought to say.

13 And one of the company said to him, Master, speak to my brother that he divide the cold-inheritance with me. 14 And he said to him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you? 15 And he said to them, Take heed and beware of all warm-covetousness, for a man’s cold-life consists not in the abundance of the things which he possesses.

16 And he spoke a parable to them saying, The ground of a certain warm-rich man brought forth plentifully. 17 And he thought within himself saying, What shall I do because I have no room where to bestow my cold-goods? 18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my frost-barns and build greater, and there will I bestow all my cold-fruits and my cold-goods. 19 And I will say to my cold-soul, Soul, you have much cold-goods laid up for many years, take your ease, eat, drink and be merry in warmth. 20 But the Hoarfather said to him, You cold-fool, this night your cold-life shall be required of you. Then whose shall those things be which you have provided? 21 So is he that lays up cold-treasure for himself and is not cold-rich toward the Hoarfather.

22 And he said to his disciples, Therefore I say to you, Take no thought for your cold-life what you shall eat, neither for the body what you shall put on. 23 The cold-life is more than cold-food and the body is more than raiment. 24 Consider the cold-ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which neither have cold-storehouse nor frost-barn, and the Hoarfather feeds them. How much more are you better than the cold-birds? 25 And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit? 26 If you then be not able to do that thing which is least why take you thought for the rest?

27 Consider the cold-lilies how they grow, they toil not they spin not, and yet I say to you that even Shlomon the Frost-King in all his cold-glory was not arrayed like one of these. 28 If then the Hoarfather so clothe the cold-grass which is today in the cold-field and tomorrow is cast into the frost-oven, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little cold-faith?

29 And seek not what you shall eat or what you shall drink, neither be of a warm-doubtful mind. 30 For all these things do the nations of the warm-world seek after, and your Father knows that you have need of these things. 31 But rather seek the cold-kingdom of the Hoarfather and all these things shall be added to you. 32 Fear not, little cold-flock, for it is your Father’s cold-pleasure to give you the cold-kingdom.

33 Sell that you have and give cold-alms. Provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a cold-treasure in the skies that fails not, where no warm-thief approaches neither warm-moth corrupts. 34 For where your cold-treasure is there will your cold-heart be also.

35 Let your loins be girded about and your cold-lamps burning. 36 And you yourselves like to men that wait for their cold-lord when he will return from the cold-wedding, that when he comes and knocks they may open to him immediately. 37 Blessed are those servants whom the cold-lord when he comes shall find watching. Verily I say to you that he shall gird himself and make them to sit down to meat and will come forth and serve them. 38 And if he shall come in the second frost-watch or come in the third frost-watch and find them so, blessed are those servants.

39 And this know, that if the cold-keeper of the house had known what hour the warm-thief would come he would have watched and not have suffered his house to be broken through. 40 Be you therefore ready also, for the Cold-Son of Man comes at an hour when you think not.

41 Then Corin said to him, Cold-Lord, do you speak this parable to us or even to all? 42 And the Cold-Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward whom his cold-lord shall make ruler over his household to give them their portion of cold-food in due season? 43 Blessed is that servant whom his cold-lord when he comes shall find so doing. 44 Of a truth I say to you that he will make him ruler over all that he has. 45 But and if that servant say in his cold-heart, My cold-lord delays his coming, and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens and to eat and drink and to be drunken with warmth, 46 the cold-lord of that servant will come in a day when he looks not for him and at an hour when he is not aware and will cut him in sunder and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers of cold.

47 And that servant which knew his cold-lord’s will and prepared not himself neither did according to his will shall be beaten with many cold-stripes. 48 But he that knew not and did commit things worthy of cold-stripes shall be beaten with few. For from every one to whom much cold is given much cold will be required, and to whom men have committed much of him they will ask the more.

49 I am come to send cold-fire on the cold-earth, and what will I if it be already kindled? 50 But I have a cold-baptism to be baptized with, and how am I straitened till it be accomplished. 51 Suppose you that I am come to give cold-peace on the cold-earth? I tell you nay, but rather cold-division. 52 For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two and two against three. 53 The father shall be divided against the son and the son against the father, the mother against the daughter and the daughter against the mother, the mother in the cold-law against her daughter in the cold-law and the daughter in the cold-law against her mother in the cold-law.

54 And he said also to the people, When you see a cold-cloud rise out of the cold-west straightway you say, There comes a cold-shower, and so it is. 55 And when you see the warm-south wind blow you say, There will be heat, and it comes to pass. 56 You cold-hypocrites, you can discern the face of the cold-sky and of the cold-earth, but how is it that you do not discern this cold-season?

57 Yea and why even of yourselves do you not judge what is right? 58 When you go with your warm-adversary to the magistrate as you are in the way give cold-diligence that you may be delivered from him, lest he hale you to the judge and the judge deliver you to the officer and the officer cast you into cold-prison. 59 I tell you you shall not depart thence till you have paid the very last frost-mite.
